Bukoba Airport



 

Bukoba Airport is among of the 59 airports managed, maintained and operated under Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), it is located 0.5 NM NE from Bukoba Town. It operates as a domestic and entry and exit point for international flights from neighboring countries. Bukoba Airport is managed by Airport Manager who is responsible for monitoring and managing other airstrips in Kagera Region which are Biharamulo and Ngara. 

HISTORY 

The Airport was constructed during Second World War in 1940’s by the British Government (Colony).

Accordingly, in 2009 there were major rehabilitations carried out that involved the extension and upgrading of runway from 1,200m to 1,500m, construction of New Apron, Taxiways and Terminal Building with capacity of serving 500,000 passengers per annum.

As per ICAO Annex 14, Bukoba Airport is classified as a Code 3C and Airport infrastructures available including runway with the length of 1,500m and width of 30m with PCN  46/F/C/X/T, one taxiway and apron capable of accommodating two (2) midsized aircrafts (Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 and ATR 42) and two Cessna caravan 208.

OPERATIONAL HOURS

The Airport operates twelve seven 12/7 from Monday to Sunday from sunrise – sunset hrs.  There are no Night operations.

ii. Aeronautical Information Services (Daily 0700-1830hrs)

iii. MET Briefing Office (Daily 0700-1830hrs) 

iv. Security (24 hrs.)

v. Ground handling services – AICO HOLDINGS Limited 12/7

RESCUE AND FIRE FIGHTING SERVICES (RFFS)

Bukoba Airport’s fire category is five (CAT 5). The RFFS station has all important facilities, communications facilities, fire chemicals and other rescue equipment.
