Scope of works

  4. Construction of Meteorological Observatory Building
  5. Completion of the existing airport buildings (Fire station, Air traffic control tower, Administration building, etc)
  6. Installation of various equipment and systems in the airport buildings

Performance progress status
  1. Construction of runway and taxiway completed to bitumen standard.
  2. Construction of base course on apron is completed and the Contractor is in preparations for construction of surfacing (rigid pavement).
  3. Construction of access road and car parking to bitumen standard is completed.
  4. Construction of storm water drainage systems in progress.
  5. Construction of Terminal Building is in progress, the Contractor is due to cast concrete on the first floor slab.
  6. Roofing works for construction of Meterological Obersevatory Building is completed. Finishing works are in progress.
  7. Construction of Waste water Stabilisation Ponds completed.
  8. Drilling of 3 deep bore holes with a total capacity of 15000 liters per hour is completed.

Challenges

  1. Delay of Advance Payments to Contractor.
  2. Substantial increase of earth works (about 7 times).
  3. Change of design of base course from Crushed stone base course to Cement stabilized base course.
  4. Antagonism between the Contractor and Consultant.
  5. Only portion of Government funds released. Some of the amount paid is from TAA revenues.
  6. Donor funds (BADEA) have not been paid from IPC No. 6 to IPC No.12
