The Government of Tanzania through the Tanzania Airports Authority is undertaking rehabilitation and upgrading of the Bukoba airport, located in the Bukoba Municipality, Kagera region. The project is being financed by World Bank and the government of Tanzania. The project involves upgrading the runway, taxiway and apron to a bitumen paved surface designed to accommodate aircraft maximum of 50 passengers. Also the project includes construction of passenger terminal building and associated facilities.
In order to avoid potential negative environmental and social impacts as a result of implementing the project TAA conducted Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) study, which was followed by preparation of Resettlement Action Plan (RAP). This report updates Resettlement Action Plan for Rehabilitation and Upgrading of Bukoba Airport that was prepared in 2009. The report indicates the changes in resettlement plans, number of affected persons (and their properties), and budget implications. Also the RAP update report entails grievances redress mechanism for resolving issues and concerns raised by affected community and other interested parties.
